myths and beliefs. Gorylah plans to produce three to four sleek-looking films a year with international potential.

Macabre follows a group of friends when they unsuspectingly venture into the bloody world of an ageless woman and her cult-like family of three deadly proteges.

It is the feature debut from the Mo Brothers, a Jakarta-based team of filmmakers, Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel.

Macabre will have its world premiere this July at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan), Asia’s largest genre film fest. Projects from Khoo and other Singaporean filmmakers will also feature in a Singaporean Spotlight at PiFan’s sophomore genre projects market Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF).

The deal was done by Wiluan for Gorylah and Overlook founders Verane Frediani and Franck Ribiere and head of sales Mathieu Robinet.

Overlook said: “We immediately saw in Macabre a masterpiece that offered great photography, editing, make-up. Although it’s very violent we felt it was a lot fun to watch too - really harking back to the great American horrors that were both terrifying but also exciting to watch. It’s a movie that, despite being in Indonesian will travel well internationally. As we’ve already had success with Inside we have a good feeling about this film.”

Set up by French independent distributor La Fabrique De Films, Overlook Entertainment is a Paris-based sales outfit which specialises in genre films.
